Inside York

WorldService Project Gig, York UK

WorldService Project (WSP) playing in York 13/2/2011
Recent winners of the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award 2010, WSP have quickly laid down
impressive live credentials at a variety of top venues and festivals across the UK including
Bath International Music Festival, Marlborough Jazz Festival, Vortex Jazz Club and the
Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer as well as recently being featured as ʻtaking offʼ (Jazzwise
August 2010).

Described as ʻ...infectiously enthusiastic music...ʼ (Chris Parker) the groupʼs sound is
drawn from a wealth of experience in jazz, funk, free-improvisation, punk and
contemporary classical music that centres around the compositional eccentricity of Dave
Morecroft.

Combining lyricism with a burning intensity, unruly progressions and flowing melodic
phrases, WSP create edgy and experimental music with a smile on its face.
WSPʼs debut album, Relentless was released at the end of 2010 and was followed up by a
hugely successful 10 date nationwide tour (supported by Jazz Services Ltd) which
included dates at the Jack Lyons Concert Hall (University of York), Matt and Phredʼs Jazz
Club (Manchester), Dempseyʼs (Cardiff), Future Inns (Bristol) and Rays Jazz @ Foyles
(London).

In 2011 the group will be leading a cultural exchange programme with Norwegian band
Synkoke as part of the Peter Whittingham Award scheme which will see both groups
touring the UK and Norway. Also for 2011 WSP have been booked for Brecon Jazz
Festival, Swanage Jazz Festival, Le Periscope (Lyon), The Devils Kitchen Collective
(Suffolk) and St Germain De Calberte Music Festival (SE France).

Before that, they will be travelling to York on Sunday 13th February to perform a headline set at Fibbers (doors 8pm). For information and to book tickets, visit http://www.fibbers.co.uk/bands/168/. You can check their music out at http://www.myspace.com/worldserviceproject.
