Not many Indian restaurants have a head chef that has cooked for the likes of Mick Jagger, Princess Diana and Imran Khan. York's new Saffron Desi is geared up to satisfy the more adventurous diner although that's not to say that you can't enjoy more traditonal Indian fare like onion bhajis and chicken tikka massala. Through the large windows overlooking Micklegate, it's an impressive prospect with its polished wooden floors, chrome walls and purple lighting. Saffron Desi has a sister restaurant in Bradford and plans afoot for a Huddersfield branch.

Being a fussy Indian I am not normally impressed by any curry houses, but the food here blew my wife and I away. The SINGLE MOST DELICIOUS curry I've had anywhere on this planet. Great service, surroundings etc is secondary to the amazing food. Will be visiting York again shortly just so we can dine here again.

Oversized tasteless nan breads.I had the tandoori chicken tikka.Chicken was white all the way through and not your usual deep red colour penetrating the meat.There was just a hot tasting glaze on it.Veg curry was a runny over spiced liquid.It appears to be "uncool"to complain about this restaurant but it is all show and no taste.Extremely disappointing.

Quite simply the most stunning Indian Restaurant I have ever visited. Stunning venue, superb service, plenty of time between courses and food absolutely mouthwatering. We can't wait to return to York to dine again at this place.
